Lomatium-Osha Supreme Liquid Phyto-Caps (Discontinued)
Ultimate Support for Healthy Upper Respiratory Function*
60 Liquid-filled Capsules 100% Vegetarian
Description of Formula
MAXIMIZING BENEFITS
Humans are constantly exposed to viruses and bacteria. Despite our best efforts it is almost impossible to avoid contact with at least some of these, and many people end up with what is known as the common cold. The winter months generally increase such exposures, in part because people spend more time indoors and in contact with another. However, many people who are exposed to viruses and bacteria do not develop a common cold. This is likely due to their immune system's defense against infection. Lomatium Osha Supreme supports the body's natural defense, by combining several healing herbs together to support healthy immune function and to maintain a healthy respiratory tract.*
Garlic bulb is mentioned in some of the oldest written records that exist, dating back to 2,600 BC in the Middle East. Its reputation in traditional cultures is vast, especially for its effect in maintaining health in the respiratory system. Studies show that garlic does help support immune function. It doesn't hurt that garlic also helps support a healthy cardiovascular system.*
Osha root is another Pacific West plant that grows only in high elevation. It has an excellent reputation for promoting health in the respiratory system. It is included here because of this reputation. Scientific research does not yet exist for this valuable plant.*
Lomatium root is a classic herb for supporting the immune system and respiratory tract. Originally known to the Native Americans, Lomatium gained a positive reputation among physicians of the American Pacific West during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Around the start of the second World War, a Nevada researcher published a government evaluation of the potentials of Nevada plants. Lomatium was considered to have the best potential. Still, its reputation never really spread beyond the region. Its uses primarily focus on respiratory health, the resins being useful to lung tissue and other mucous membranes. It is also used to support general immune health, and does show promise for promoting phagocytosis of the non-specific immune response.*
Grindelia buds contain an aromatic resin that is considered to be an important tonic for the lungs. The resins specifically support the activity of mucous membranes in the respiratory tract.*
Irish Moss (actually a lichen and not a moss) is used traditionally for supporting respiratory health in European herbalism. There has been little study of this interesting lichen in modern times.*
Hyssop herb is used as a flavoring in liquors and candies, attesting to its pleasant taste. It is often used as a bath herb as well. Folk use of this pleasing plant focused on mild calming properties and gentle respiratory support. It is considered safe for children, a positive since they tend to like the taste!*
Oregon Grape root has a history of traditional use closely resembling that of Goldenseal. It also soothes and strengthens mucous membranes and contains the alkaloid berberine, with immune stimulating properties.*
Goldenseal rhizome and root is another plant native to North America. It has traditionally been used to soothe the mucous membranes. Goldenseal contains the immunostimulatory alkaloid, Berberine.*
Mullein leaf and flower are listed by the German Commission E to support a healthy respiratory tract. This vindicates its traditional use to soothe and promote health in the respiratory system.*
Lobelia herb & seed were considered by the Eclectic physicians in the late nineteenth century to be one of the most important plants. They utilized it to strengthen and relieve spasm in the respiratory system. It is surprising, given the high regard and widespread use of Lobelia, that there is so little investigation of its properties in modem research. This is likely due to the fact that in overdose it can cause nausea. Researchers likely overlooked the traditional method of giving small amounts of Lobelia in combination with other herbs to avoid the side effects while maximizing its benefits.*
St. John's Wort flower buds have been used traditionally for more than 2,000 years. It is utilized here for its harmonizing effect and for its support to nervous system health.*
It has been said that Native Americans used Echinacea to treat more conditions than any other remedy. The Eclectic medical doctors, from the first half of the last century, also praised Echinacea for its benefits to the respiratory tract. Today, modern science is beginning to support much of its established traditional use, by showing that extracts of Echinacea spp. have the ability to strengthen immune function. Research has further shown that alcohol/water extracts of Echinacea significantly enhance natural killer cell function, and have phagocytic and metabolic influence on macrophages. This simply means that Echinacea has the potential to nonspecifically activate your immune system. In other words, your normal immune response is enhanced.*
